Come join us on the first Saturday in July as we kick off this year's new First Saturday Program. This year we will feature three patterns -- one pieced quilt, one appliqué quilt, and one mystery quilt.
PIECED OPTION - BOW DIDDLEY
Pattern only; NOT THESE COLOR WAYS
This year's pieced pattern is called Bow Diddley and will feature a traditional sampler layout on point with sashing and cornerstones. What's new this year is that you will be able to choose between two borders for your finishing kit (optional). The quilt size for the simple border is 93" square and the sassy border is 106" square (swag and scallop border).
The program will include 12 blocks. The blocks are all intricately designed to give movement and visual interest without being difficult to make. We have had many, many requests to carry Kaffe Fassett fabrics, so I thought this would be a great way to introduce Kaffe fabrics to our customers. So one of the colorways will be a bold floral Kaffe print in blue, teal, green, and purple as the focus fabric, along with a number of other complementary Kaffe fabrics. The second colorway will be autumn batiks.
We will provide the pattern and all fabrics for the blocks except for the background fabric, which you will be responsible for providing.
The applique quilt is called Grandmother's Butterflies and is being offered in two colorways: The first will be bright batiks and the second will be thirties prints. You will be providing your own background. You can choose whatever applique method you prefer as enough fabric will be provided for both machine and hand applique.
I was fortunate to get the sample quilts for both colorways to give you some ideas of what the project will look like with a light or dark background. You must see them; they are absolutely beautiful! There are three finishing kit options for this quilt: Throw (12 blocks), Double/Queen (20 blocks), and King (30 blocks). The blocks are set on point with 3-dimensional prairie points included in the border.
For both the pieced and applique options, we will have finishing kits available so that you can finish your quilt in the suggested layout and fabrics that coordinate with your quilt. They will be available only during the first half of the program, and a $50 nonrefundable deposit must be made to secure your kit. If you choose not to purchase a finishing kit, finishing patterns will be available for sale at the end of the program.
The third option is a mystery quilt, and this year's theme is Patriotic. The size is 56" x 67". The key idea of this choice is that it is a mystery, and you really don't know what you are making. That's what makes this option so much fun. Finishing kits will be available for this quilt at the end of the program, but we encourage you to put down a deposit to ensure you get a finishing kit at the end of the program.
HOW IT WORKS
You will need to pre-register for any of the quilts in our First Saturday program so we can ensure we have a fabric kit ready for you on Saturday. The way the program works is you come to the shop the first Saturday of every month (some months may change due to holidays) at either 9:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to pick up your block kit and attend a shop presentation, during which we will show new fabrics, products, have demos, show and tell, and a raffle gift. Sometimes we even have guest speakers! If you come to the session and your previous month’s block is completed, you will receive your next block for free. If you do not attend one of that month’s sessions or your block is not complete, you will need to pay $6 to get your next block and get back into the program. If you attend every month, at the end of the year you will have received all 12 blocks for your original joining fee.
